HEY, IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?
So. I haven’t posted much of anything since 2014. Three years.
Three, frankly, of the worst years of my life. Let’s see if I can break ‘em down (Lord knows they did their best to break me down) to a few bullet points:
1) I got sick. Fibromyalgia. Drained of all energy and unable to concentrate, I spent most of my time in bed. I was forced to stop writing.
2) My dad got cancer. He died earlier this year. I sorted through every paper he ever owned, decided to what to keep and what to throw away, and helped my mom move to a new place.
3) At the height of my illness and just before my dad died, my wife left me. There was no big drama, no cheating or drug abuse or anything like that—she just thought we had nothing in common any more. Or maybe she just got tired of living with someone who was sick all the time.
4) So, I lost my wife, my work, my dad and my home. But wait, there’s more! (Those of you who are becoming depressed, feel free to skip ahead.) Turns out that fibromyalgia is triggered by many different foods and substances, so I had to give up caffeine, alcohol, and so many different foods that I basically stopped eating in restaurants. My wife and son are vegetarian, and I could no longer eat soy or beans or most nuts, so I stopped eating with them.
I was pretty low. But I refused to give up--I came up with a plan, and I followed through. My health has improved to the point where I can function again. I’m living in a new place. I’m ready, finally, to get back to writing.
And I thought I’d start here. Telling my readers where I’ve been and why I’ve been gone. Documenting some of my journey as a way of getting back to the writing life, and telling people what I’m planning on working on. Hopefully, I’ll even get a little encouragement—though I’ve been away for so long I don’t know if any of my fans are still out there. Maybe I’ll just wind up writing for myself . . . which is fine. It’s how I started out, after all. This is my first post, but I’ll do my best not to make it my last.
How’s everyone doing out there?

Woohoo you’re back!!! It sounds like life was kicking you in the teeth there for a good while. I too have fybro and I don’t know which is worse the physical or mental symptoms of it. I hope getting back into the swing of things goes smoothly for you. I’m eager to read some new books.
Hey! I’m so sorry to hear about what you e been going through! That is a lot for anyone to go through! Especially in such a short time! I absolutely loved every single one of your books and am looking forward to anything that you write! You are a great author!

Glad you’re back!
Hello, sorry to hear all the troubles you have had to endure. It’s true when it rains it pours. I got lucky I saw you post on Facebook and came over right away. I was checking out your site once every month or two to see if there was anything going on.
I hope you are doing well and I hope to hear more from you soon.
I am so sorry to hear what you have gone though but I happy to hear you are doing better! I would love to see another book in the Bloodhound series but if this is not to be I understand. I do miss Charlie’s quibs and snappy outfits. I did enjoy your new series as well. I hope to see an update for a new book soon! Take Care.
Thank you, Carmen, Courtney, Josh, Lisa and Jackie! You’ve brightened my day like you wouldn’t believe. Okay, it was already a pretty good day, but this really lets me know my readers are still out there. I promise, I’ll have something for all of you soon. I LOVE YOU ALL!
Glad you are seeing the light at the end of that crappy tunnel. Really looking forward to reading more from you! Until then, anxiously awaiting…
I am so sorry things have been so hard the last few years. Congratulations on getting back to writing. I can’t wait to read your new work some day soon! You have been missed.
I am so sorry for everything you have gone through. I’m glad to hear things are getting better. I really enjoyed your books and hope to see new ones from you in the future!
So sorry for everything you’ve been going through. Sending positive vibes your way and hoping for the best! Keep going! You’ve got this!
It’s hard when life kicks you in the teeth. Glad you pulled through and am excited to read your new material.
So sorry to hear of your troubles. It sucks when it feels like you have a big cosmic target on your back. Anyway, no stupid platitudes from me. Interestingly enough, I started rereading Bloodhound files last night…maybe a sign of one of my favorite authors back in the saddle. ????
I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through! As someone who is working her way past five bad years, I can somewhat relate. But the fact that you are back just made MY day! While I’ve read all of Jace’s books, I’m now listening to them on Audible! I truly love your writing and can’t wait for a new installment if that’s the plan. Will be praying for you and yours and thanks for coming back!!!
That is really a crappy few years you’ve had. I’m so glad you’ve gotten to a better place and I hope your health continues to improve. Love your books and looking forward to whatever your next project is. Welcome back !! : )
There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, and it looks like you’ve found it!! 🙂 I love your work, please get back to writing soon! Your stories are so imaginative and creative, they draw you into another world. I remember finding The Bloodhound Files, I came across the first book by chance, and then devoured each one after that as soon as it came out. So, keep looking for the sunshine, it’s there! 🙂
Glad to see you’re back! Sympathies for the crappy years, I hope life gets better for you!
So glad to hear that you are recovering and writing again. I hope for your continued recovery and look forward to any new books. Jace is my favorite. Can’t wait to see what’s up with her next!!!
Thank you so much. Support from my fans means a lot to me; it helps when times are darkest.
I was just scouring the internet to figure out if you’re still writing, and if not, maybe send you a verbal push (also known as begging). Needless to say, you have (just about) every reason in the world to have taken a break.
But you still have fans out here. Fans you’ve never heard from before who find your books at a random bookshop in Seattle and then hunt down information on the internet. I don’t write these much, and I’m rambling so I’ll get to some sort of point. Please start writing again. The voice you gave Jace is my absolute favorite of anything I’ve ever read. You have a unique style that I adore. Hope to see new things from you soon!
Fawn: thank you so much for writing. It’s messages like this that keep me going. You’ll be happy to know that I AM writing again, though it’s not directly about Jace (though she’s going to make an appearance). If you want to see what I’ve been up to, check out collaborativecomics.com, where I have another blog. It’s a webcomic that I plan on launching soon–I just need to get some electronic details straightened out as far as web design is concerned. And feel free to ramble at me any time you feel like it–I’m a rambling kinda guy myself.
