Death Blows

Hey, everyone. DEATH BLOWS, the sequel to DYING BITES, is now out. Various writing-related tasks have kept me from doing much blogging, but I did find time to do an interview here: http://amberkatze.blogspot.com/2010/04/author-interview-with-author-dd-barant.html
If you want to know a little bit more about me, and possibly even score a free copy of my new book, it’s the place to go.

Read Death Blows in one evening. Loved the book. It’s funny because I’m not that into comics but one of my sons is a collector. While I got a little confused and had to flip back, it was really an unique idea and a great storyline.

    Hi DD,
I love this series. Your writing is fresh and Jace is great. I love her personality and the way her thoughts just flow out of her head sometimes! Are we going to see any romance develop with her and Cassius in the 3rd installment? It seems like they’re creeping along that route.
Just curious. Anxiously awaiting Book 3!

  3. Dot Says:

I just finished Death Blows. It was outstanding. Do you have an idea when “killing Rocks” will be out?

  4. Administrator Says:

Dot: stay tuned for a possible romance . . . not saying with who. KILLING ROCKS will be out in 2011, but I don’t have a pub date yet.

  5. Gwendalla Says:

I love the Bloodhound series. I think the characters are amazing and can’t wait to hear more from them. It says on Amazon that Killing Rocks will be released on Dec.28 2010? I hope this is true because I read Death Blows in one day and still wanted more. I guess you did your job well because I deffinitly lost some sleep to this book. Thank you for putting your stories out there!

  6. db Says:

Really liked the first 2 novels and can’t wait for the 3rd. However I’m a little confused about something in Death Blows and hope you reply. I reread it two times and still can’t figure out were a certain new yet old character came from?? I get who the person is just confused about how the person came to be???????? Don’t want to say any more for anyone who has not yet read the book. please help???????

  7. Noelle Says:

My question is the same as db’s actually. The existence of that alternate character was never explained. Also, the “good” version of that character… Will we be seeing that character again? I already miss the guy. I’m hoping for said character to be floating around in the nonexistent waiting for someone to figure out how to undo what happened and get rid of Ol’ Grey Stripe.

  8. Administrator Says:

db and Noelle: yeah, when you’re dealing with alternate realities and time-travel it can get a little confusing. Let me see if I can clear things up.
Basically, the sword changed this character’s history. The person he is now is the person he could have been if he had made some bad decisions in his past. He’s technically still the same person, but with a very different outlook and personality. We’re all shaped by the decisions we make and the paths we choose to go down, and the version of this character produced by the sword is a collection of bad choices, missed opportunities and general lack of judgment.
But that doesn’t mean the original isn’t still there somewhere . . . and since magic caused this situation, magic might be able to reverse it. Stay tuned.

  9. db Says:

Thanks for the explain but new baddie was from the start of book so when was the contact with the sword to cause the split?? or is that info for another book?

  10. Nancy Says:

Read both Bloodhound books. Loved them. Only complaint, books are not coming out fast enough.

  11. Administrator Says:

db: time travel, remember? Even though the sword hit him at the end, it changed him at the beginning. I know, I know–you think time-travel is hard to read, try writing it. The tenses alone are enough to give you a migraine. Excuse me, but there’s something I need to will have done, but not until before later.

Nancy: Thanks very much. I’ve tried taking some literary laxative to help with that problem, but so far it just makes me spew adverbs first thing in the morning. Maybe I should try paper with more fiber.

Does Neil know he’s a character in your book? I have all of the first-edition Sandman HB graphic novels, so it was like Christmas to find him in “Death Blows”. I’m pretty sure if someone mentioned it to him (me), he might mention it on his blog :-)

  13. Administrator Says:

Hey, Elizabeth–I’d love it if someone pointed out to Neil he has a cameo in my book!

  14. Elizabeth C. Says:

Done and done! I’m a rabid follower of his blog, so I’ll definitely drop you a line if he mentions it. Or you might just notice the massive increase in book sales :-)

  15. Vanessa Says:

Okay, well, i wanna read death blows but they dont have it at our public library. >.

  16. Kassandra Says:

I am a big fan of supernatural books and have read the Kelley Armstong series. I noticed her quotes on your books and thought I would pick you up.

I’m just getting into the first book “Dying Bites” and am just noticing a few parts were people are miss referenced. I was wondering if there was some where to send these observations to so that they can be changed for the next printing?

I’m excited to finish the book. I really like how Jace gets a history lesson about the new world so that we can be informed too. Most books just give pieces at a time and it takes slower to get submerged in the world.

  17. Sorwen Says:

I don’t mean to be rude by coming here and raining on the parade so to speak, but I wanted to add my 2 cents and ask a question. I have to say I was a little disappointed in Cassius’s role given everything that happens. It is like both the previous story and this one are keeping him at arms length so to speak. Though this one was a better in dealing with him. It is sort of like the person that keep putting their head in the door for a few seconds then leaves again.

While I’m not much for “romance” the whole Jace/Cassius thing amounts to less than a chapter in each book and strikes me as why bother? If nothing is going to be done with it wouldn’t it be better not to have it at all? It kind of detracts from everything else going on. The why of the maybe (if that is vague enough not to spoil without being too vague) at the art exhibit was interesting to know at least.
