Betwain a Rock Star and a Heard Place

A short update this time--only three pages--where a very confused superhero tries to figure out what's going on while Liss settles on a famous literary figure for her latest shapeshifted form. With Liss holding his body hostage, does Apocalyx Go have any choice but to . . . well, go? And where to? Last but not least, does Liss have to go as well, or is that trip to the bathroom just a flimsy excuse? For those who care, the superhero here is based on a guy in a swimming costume from 1920. Taken from a black-and-white film called WHY CHANGE YOUR WIFE, starring Harold Lloyd and Bebe Daniels; digitally altered by yours truly. All this, as usual, at http://thecrossover.thecomicseries.com/.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Well, it's Wednesday again--funny how that seems to roll around every seven days or so. Probably just a coincidence. Anyway, the last week saw me bed-ridden with a terrible cold, which means . . . YOU GET AN UPDATE ANYWAY! Yes, I refuse to let a virus keep me from inflicting more webcomicness upon you all. Head on over to http://thecrossover.thecomicseries.com/ to find out why Liss looks like a weird monkey-frog thing--and it's not an illusion spell.

Universal Collaboration

Huzzah! It's Wednesday, and that means more new pages up http://thecrossover.thecomicseries.com. Liss catches up to Apocalyx Go--but things aren't what they seem. And this panel features the first of my Anyverse collaborators, Lynne Taylor Fahnestalk. Lynne is multitalented artist, but these days she's concentrating on making robot sculptures out of upcycled materials. Her stuff often has a Steampunk feel, though the image I'm using here is of one of her earlier, more Atompunk works. There's a link to her Facebook page in the Author's comments on the bottom of the comic page; please, go check out her awesome stuff. This is an important day for me, because this is the first time I get to say, "Hey! Look! I'm helping to promote a creator I adore AND I get to play with her toys in my Anyverse! EVERYBODY WINS!" This is one of the central tenets of The Crossover; to help promote creative work other people have done while weaving those creations into my own crazy world. All of the previous creators I've gotten to collaborate with have been dead--kudos to those of you who spotted my casting of Harold Lloyd as Warlocke Holmes--but that's a trend I'd like to reverse. As the story progresses, I'd like to feature the work of costumers, jewelry-makers, writers, and other comic creators. I should add that creators retain all rights to their creations, and that my intention is to promote work you've already done, NOT to ask you to work for free. So drop by and pull up a barstool. Drinks are on me.

Happy Halloween!

Yes, it's an October 31st update. Four new pages are up at http://thecrossover.thecomicseries.com, as Liss tracks down the decidedly unusual Apocalyx Go in a . . . shoe? Also, in case you missed it the first time, I'm also going to mention a short illustrated story (about Halloween) I wrote called "Killing Fear", which is up at https://commaful.com/home/. I'd like to thank everyone who took part in my first Option Auction, over at https://the-crossover.myshopify.com. I raised a whole dollar and sixty-four cents! And people say entertainment is expensive. I'll have another auction up before too long; if you've got any suggestions as to choices I should put up for bidding, feel free to leave a comment on this blog, or on the comic itself. I had big plans to promote THE CROSSOVER immediately following the launch--and hey, you need to book those blimps MONTHS in advance--but then I made a ground-breaking discovery: apparently, if you have an immune-system disorder like fibromyalgia, getting a flu shot is not a good idea. The last two weeks have been a foggy, achy, depressed blur, as I struggled to do pretty much anything. Today seems to have turned a corner and I'm feeling well enough to put words on screen. Wish me luck, please.

A Post Wherein I Impart Wisdom of a Timely Nature.

Aaaaaaaaah. That's the sigh of relief released after you've finally delivered something you've been laboring over for the past five years. Feels good. THE CROSSOVER is up and running, and I just posted the second update of four pages. Should be doing this like clockwork every Wednesday night for--well, however long it takes to tell this story, I guess. I've got a number of plotlines waiting in the wings, so we'll see. Today's installment features a bit more about the interdimensional rock star Apocalyx Go, and gets a little racy. By which I mean that sex is mentioned, and not racing. Go to http://thecrossover.thecomicseries.com to check it out, and feel free to leave a comment. Thanks!

Free Money! Or a Reasonable Facsimile thereof.

Hello everyone! THE CROSSOVER (thecrossover.thecomicseries.com) has launched and is doing well. Something I had printed up for the official launch party was a voting coupon you could use to influence which way the story goes; the current arc stops at a cusp point and asks my readers to make a choice. Biddding can be as little as twenty-five cents at a time, and only the winning bids are collected. The coupon was for FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS, which you can use toward any of your bids. But why let just the people who came to the party have all the fun? I'm going to publish the discount code right here, so that you can play too. The code is: AWNZ4NYMH7WG, and the voting site is at: https://the-crossover.myshopify.com. Code is usuable once per person.

THE CROSSOVER IS NOW LIVE.

Whew. The project I've been working on for the past five years is finally up! Check out my brand-new webcomic THE CROSSOVER at http://thecrossover.thecomicseries.com for the adventures of Liss Liddell, a universe-hopping, alternate-reality, professional thief version of Alice. After an initial two-week launch window, I'll be updating the comic every Wednesday--or Monday, for my Patreon subscribers (did I mention the Patreon page at https://www.patreon.com/DDBarant ? My mistake.) There are many cool features to this project, not the least of which is the ability of my readers to influence the course of the action via an auction function at certain cusp points; bids start at a measly twenty-five cents and are both cumulative and co-operative--get your friends to chip in some spare change and you can rule the narrative like a Fictional God! Or, you know, decide the color of someone's hair--depends on what I'm feeling iffy about. Point is, you only pony up actual coinage if your choice wins the auction--if you lose, you pay nothing. Cheap thrills, for sure. Splurge and spend seventy-five cents to decide someone's destiny! Or give them a case of the hiccups. I'm a quirky deity, myself. I had to have an app specially built for this, though, and we're still ironing out the bugs. It should be up and running in a day or two. In honor of the occasion, I'm throwing a launch party on Friday Night at the Northwest's longest-running fan event, V-Con. Drop by and have a multidimensional beverage, on me. I'll have a multimedia display of some of the art I've been using on the project, too.

A new Post, by Ghawd

There is a new post up at collaborativecomics.com, one which WOULD be up here except that WordPress hates me and the feeling is mutual. I apologize for sending you to another site (because that is tiresome and annoying) but there is nothing for it. I promise you, Treasures Await. Or at least something mysterious and odd, much like myself.
